Consumer Tips

Today, almost everyone knows some sort of entertainer... Whether your neighbor's son is in a garage band or your co-worker occasionally makes some great "mix" CDs for his daughter's youth group dances, there will always be "that guy" or "that girl" that sincerely wants to help you with your entertainment needs... but they don't quite strike you as the perfect fit for your event.

One of the biggest problems about knowing individuals that can double as wedding vendors is their professionalism.  Not all wedding, mitzvah, or party entertainers are created equal.  A band, for example, that sounds great at a local rock music festival may scare your guests away before they even sit down to eat.  A disc jockey that keeps people dancing at a downtown nightclub might not be able to play songs for guests of varying ages and musical tastes.  Finally, a "helpful" friend that sets up an iPod and a home stereo just screams, "I don't care enough about my guests to provide decent entertainment!"

As someone who values the success of your event, you should sit back and leave the entertainment to the qualified professionals, the members of The Baltimore Area Disc Jockey Association.

Just as entertainers are not created equal, neither are all disc jockey associations.  Many organizations are just looking to add another name to their roster so they can boast that they are the biggest and best, while others are just interested in collecting an annually check for their members' dues.  At BADJA, we are dedicated to maintaining the highest industry standards of ethics and professionalism.  Each BADJA member must pass the following four part test before gaining acceptance into the associations:

1.  Complete a written application - including the disclosure of types of equipment used, sample contracts, client referrals, business cards, website and other marketing materials.

2.  Be evaluated by members of the Board of Directors at an event where the applicant is performing while paying attention to the way the DJ/KJ makes announcements, interacts with clients and guests and makes musical selections based on the audience he/she is entertaining for.

3.  The applicant is then formally introduced (by a presentation of his/her application, evaluation, and any other references or recommendations from other BADJA members) to the full Board of Directors.  The board is given two months to consider the application and provided information.

4.  The applicant appears at a Board of Director's meeting 2 months after applying to address the board and answer questions from the current board members and any BADJA member that wishes to attend the "confirmation".  A vote is conducted to approve/deny the applicant.  (Applicants may be admitted on a probationary basis after application which entitles them to take part in BAJDA events, however they are not officially recognized as members until the Board of Directors' vote has been conducted)

Your event deserves the professional attention a BADJA entertainer can provide.  Visit our members' websites profile pages to find the DJ or KJ that best suits your needs!
